Le travail présenté sur ce site est constitué par mes notes de recherche. Il a principalement été réalisé entre 2007 et 2019 alors que je poursuivais des études de baccalauréat, de maîtrise et de doctorat en histoire de l'art. Mes questions de recherche portaient sur les expositions organisées à Montréal entre 1860 et 1920, principalement les expositions d'œuvres prêtées à l'Art Association of Montreal devenue depuis le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal. Le contenu est donc fortement orienté dans cette direction. Malgré tout, j'espère qu'il saura vous renseigner sur des aspects de cette période de notre passé artistique. A Dutch Painter who is perhaps unrivalled in the rendering of rich, luminous effects, chiefly in Churches. The sunlight and atmosphere in his interirs are beyond criticism, and his management of hanging lamps one of the striking features of his work. He also painted many fine landscapes. If anyone looks for correct Architectural drawing in Bosboom's work he will be disappointed, for that is not his aim, nor did he care for it. But we can look for and find the poetry of a Church interioir filled with air, and radiant with light, the bright sunbeam entering throught the window and striking the opposite wall, or sparkling on the floor, the pillars rising nobly aloft, enveloped in atmosphere, the dim recesses revealing the darkness beyond. All this is rendered as never before, by an artist who loved his subject, and who has been rightly calle the "Corot" of interiors.
