Le travail présenté sur ce site est constitué par mes notes de recherche. Il a principalement été réalisé entre 2007 et 2019 alors que je poursuivais des études de baccalauréat, de maîtrise et de doctorat en histoire de l'art. Mes questions de recherche portaient sur les expositions organisées à Montréal entre 1860 et 1920, principalement les expositions d'œuvres prêtées à l'Art Association of Montreal devenue depuis le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal. Le contenu est donc fortement orienté dans cette direction. Malgré tout, j'espère qu'il saura vous renseigner sur des aspects de cette période de notre passé artistique. * Petits maîtres de la peinture :
Peintre hollandais instable, nerveux et sujet à des dépressions, il reçoit ses premières leçons du paysagiste Pieter van Os, habite Oosterbeek de 1856 à 1859 où il se lie avec Maris et Bilders, prend un atelier à Amsterdam en 1865, déménage pour Haarlem en 1870 et s'installe enfin dans le village de Laren en 1878, le Barbizon hollandais.
Ses paysages au ton grave, souvent animés de troupeaux de mouton, montrent une belle tenue.
En 1881, il guide et encourage Van Gogh qui traverse des jours difficiles après ses malheureuses expériences d'évangélisation.
À travers la formation et les résonances de l'École de Laren, la réputation de Mauve est devenue internationale: il meurt subitement à cinquante ans au cours d'un séjour chez son frère à Amheim.
