Notes de recherche de Marc Gauthier

Le travail présenté sur ce site est constitué par mes notes de recherche. Il a principalement été réalisé entre 2007 et 2019 alors que je poursuivais des études de baccalauréat, de maîtrise et de doctorat en histoire de l'art. Mes questions de recherche portaient sur les expositions organisées à Montréal entre 1860 et 1920, principalement les expositions d'œuvres prêtées à l'Art Association of Montreal devenue depuis le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal. Le contenu est donc fortement orienté dans cette direction. Malgré tout, j'espère qu'il saura vous renseigner sur des aspects de cette période de notre passé artistique.      Medals: Paris, 1838, 1848, 1855, 1867. Legion of Honour 1846. Officer 1867. Diploma to the memory of deceased Artists (Exposition Universelle) 1878.
    
     Notes AAM1903:
     The leader of the "men of 1830." Pupil of Michallon about 1822, and then of Bertin, completing his studies in Italy. Bright and cheerful, and generous to a fault, he was loved by all his brother artists. Shortly before his death in 1875, "le père Corot" was presented wby them with a gold medal in token of their appreciation of his kind and lovable character. his works are replete with poetry and delicate fancies, full of romance, and paintedwith great freedom and breadth, rich and full of inimitable tone dans color. He was the recipient of many medals and honors, and was created an officer of the Legion of Honor in 1867.

     1796-1875.
     The work of the French artists of 1830, was largely influenced by Turner and Constable, the founders of modern landscape art. But Corot was also distinctively original, and struck out in a decidedly novel path of his own discovery, and he has in his turn had a great and far-reaching influence. His life was singularly happy and contented, and Père Corot was a much-loved man by his many friends. Singing to himself as he worked, generous to a degree, at peace with the world, he leaves a record of a beautiful character, pleasant to dwell upon. "He was the artist poet of the morning and of the evening, the delightful painter of twilight, of rosy dawn and dewy eve, and he invested every landscape he produced with a romanticism and charm that are thoroughly wounderful".
