Le travail présenté sur ce site est constitué par mes notes de recherche. Il a principalement été réalisé entre 2007 et 2019 alors que je poursuivais des études de baccalauréat, de maîtrise et de doctorat en histoire de l'art. Mes questions de recherche portaient sur les expositions organisées à Montréal entre 1860 et 1920, principalement les expositions d'œuvres prêtées à l'Art Association of Montreal devenue depuis le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal. Le contenu est donc fortement orienté dans cette direction. Malgré tout, j'espère qu'il saura vous renseigner sur des aspects de cette période de notre passé artistique. Adaline Van Horne Bequest, 1945.
The sitter is stated. Catalogue of the Van Horne collection, to have been Governor of the Provinces of Vanos and Riotoria. A late inscription at top of the canvas, removed in cleaning, 1956, replaced the original and shorter inscription. of which only fragments are legible. The provenance of this painting is linked with that of the Saint Jerome in the Frick Collection, New York. The privately-printed Catalogue of that collection states, on the authority of Dr. Sanchez Canton, that both pictures are known to have come from Valladolid Cathedral. The article in Formas, 1904, queries this. It is certain that both pictures were in Valladolid in 1904, if not in the Cathedral. The portrait is dated Cossio 1577-84; by Kehrer c.1580; by Mayer, c.1580-86.
