Le travail présenté sur ce site est constitué par mes notes de recherche. Il a principalement été réalisé entre 2007 et 2019 alors que je poursuivais des études de baccalauréat, de maîtrise et de doctorat en histoire de l'art. Mes questions de recherche portaient sur les expositions organisées à Montréal entre 1860 et 1920, principalement les expositions d'œuvres prêtées à l'Art Association of Montreal devenue depuis le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal. Le contenu est donc fortement orienté dans cette direction. Malgré tout, j'espère qu'il saura vous renseigner sur des aspects de cette période de notre passé artistique. Salisbury Cathedral
Through the arching branches of two lofty trees in shadow in the foreground, the spire of the Cathedral is seen with portions of the building, the whole in bright light, in the near middle distance. Between these trees is a pool at which two cows are drinking. Other cows are indicated on the meadow stretching to the Cathedral. On the left a path curves through other trees. Bright clouds in the sky.

Constable, who did so much to mould English landscape art, is represented by a picture, owned by Mr. Angus, of Salisbury Cathedral. This beautiful building, still the pride of all the West Country, is seen standing out in bold relief beyond great umbrageous elms such as Constable loved. Nowadays we should find some fault with the formality of composition and color, but the picture has all the quality which made Constable's work so loveable.
